Overview
Children Available:
Both boys and girls aged 3 months and above are available and adoptive families may select a gender preference. Generally children are Asian in appearance and reside in orphanage settings for at least 3 months. Children with special needs are also available. These children are cared for in a special orphanage.
Parents Qualification:
Azerbaijan adoption program is very flexible. Both married couples and single females can adopt. There are no specific age requirements for adoptive applicants. Other children may already be present in the adoptive home.
Timeline:
Approximately 1-6 months to receive the child referral after dossier has been completed.
Travel:
Travel to Azerbaijan is necessary to complete the adoption process and two short trips are required. For couples, both parents must make the first trip while only one may travel on the second trip.
For fist trip you must stay in Azerbaijan for at least 2 days. This trip is to be made about 8-12 weeks after accepting a child’s referral. Typically, a meeting with your child is arranged on the first day and court hearing is scheduled the next day or later.
The second trip occurs about 30 days after your court hearing. This second trip requires at least 4 days stay in Azerbaijan in which you bring your child home along with necessary documents obtained from the Azerbaijan government (adoption decree, birth certificate and child's passport.
