Advocate for Kazakhstan
Overview
Kazakstan is a huge program with many agencies having programs in this country. It is popular for it’s short waiting time, but the long in-country stay deters some families. So many, many children are waiting in Kazakhstan

Children Available : The children awaiting adoption in Kazakhstan are brought to orphanages either from hospitals where they are relinquished or left by birth parents that have no more economic resources to care for them. Boys and girls age 6 months to 15 years old are waiting. Occasionally, sibling groups may be available. Children may be described as "delayed" due to living in an institution, but will generally make excellent progress once they are in a family, where there is more opportunity for stimulation. Adoptive parents should be open to adopting children of Caucasian/Eurasian/Asian heritage and appearances. The need for families is greater for children of Eurasian/Asian ethnicity.

Waiting children from Kazakhstan include older, healthy children as well as infants and toddlers with minor medical diagnoses.

Parent Qualifications: Married couples (up to age 60 years) and single women under 50 years of age may adopt children in Kazakhstan. Couples should have been married at least one year by the time they receive a child referral.

Travel: Adoptive parents have three options:
One trip of approximately 5-6 weeks, one trip of three weeks during which both parents must be present. Another trip of approximately 5 days to bring the child home may be made by one parent only or, One trip of three weeks during which both parents must be present, then have the child escorted to the USA

Timeline: This can be a quick program. After dossier is complete, families can choose a waiting child immediately, or wait 1-3 months for a child to be assigned to them. Travel is 1-2 months following referral.

Tips:To get started, please read the RainbowKids Adoption Guide (left menu) first. The next step is to contact and compare agencies. You may easily do this by using the Contact Wizard on our website. Receiving feedback about agencies from an online discussion group is always helpful as well. Finally, when you bring your child home, be sure and send your story to RainbowKids. We love hearing from proud new families!
