Overview
International adoption from the country of Taiwan is a small program. Taiwan is a developed nation with an educated populace and good infrastructure. Children who cannot be parented by their families of birth are first available for domestic adoption within Taiwan. Taiwan has two different adoption programs. Some agencies work within one program only.
Approval of birthparents or the birthfamily is often part of the process.
Children available:
The two programs are divided. One program places healthy infants. The other program places special needs and older children.
Parent Qualification:
In general, married couples are strongly preferred between the ages of 28-45.
Timeline:
Choosing a waiting child will shorten the time of referral. Otherwise, it is approximately 18 months until referral and travel.
Travel:
1 trip of 4-6 days for at least one parent.
