| Overview |
| Panama is a small Central American country. It has a small international adoption program, with few agencies working there.
Children available: Children of both genders between the age of 1 – 10 years are available. Panamanian waiting children usually reside in public orphanages but generally receive good care. Children available are mostly orphans and are of mixed Spanish and black race.
Parents Qualification: Eligible adoptive applicants for Panama are:
Married couples between the age of 25 – 40 years, married for at least 2 years : can adopt a child of any age.
Married couples , 40 years of age can also adopt a child 1 year or older only.
Single women between the age of 30 – 50 years: can adopt a child 1 year or older.
Timeline: Waiting time for receiving referral, after dossier completion is 6 – 10 months on average.
Travel: Two trips to Panama are required to complete the adoption:
First trip is for 5 – 7 days
Second trip is also for about 5 – 7 days and is usually 4 months after the first one. |
