Speakers: Laurie Miller, MD / Linda Tirella, developmental therapist, Adoption Clinic at Tufts Medical Center Date & Time: Nov 10 from 7-9pm Location: 1430 Main St, Waltham, MA Cost: $10 per person Advance registration required at whfc.org/events Intended audience: Prospective pre-adoptive / adoptive parents (domestic adoption only) The speakers will discuss parent preparation to facilitate child & family adjustment after adoption, minimize problems, & possibly improve adoption outcomes. The discussion will be geared for those already parenting & prospective parents adopting domestically. Topics will include possible medical & developmental issues, possible pre-natal exposures, such as drugs, tobacco, or alcohol, & the impact of these exposures on long term development. Additional topics will include risks associated with genetic disorders or a history of mental illness in the birth family. This workshop will be designed to reduce family stress & promote child adjustment after adoption. Hosted by Wide Horizons and Jewish Family & Children Service/Adoption Resources
